The Historic Melrose Inn Bed and Breakfast was built in 1889 and is situated among the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, in the friendly town of Tryon, North Carolina. Located within about an hour’s drive of Asheville, Charlotte and Greenville (SC), Tryon offers small town hospitality within driving distance of the big cities.

Marilyn received a warm reception when she arrived:  Letter to the editor

When you visit you will step into the past, with a modern twist. The new owner is Marilyn Doheny, a world famous Contemporary Quilt Artist, author, judge, publisher, decorator, and gourmet chef! Marilyn fondly calls the Melrose Inn “The Old Dame” and has been bringing her back to life!  The inn has been extensively remodeled, renovated, and intimately decorated. Your stay here will be friendly, memorable, comfortable, and inspiring. We serve coffee, tea, or juice to your door every morning before breakfast! A hearty breakfast is served daily in the dining room and we invite you to dine on our large, social, breezy porch any time, for breakfast, lunch, cocktails, or dinner.

Marilyn Doheny furnished and decorated the inn with hundreds of art objects from her personal collections. It is filled with beautiful, intriguing, and unusual pieces everywhere you look.

Marilyn is not the only one who thinks Tryon is very special. Here is UNC-TV showing you around our friendly, lovely, little town:
